Students who wish to study medicine in overseas medical schools are advised to verify the recognition of such schools with the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
A list of Medical and Dental Schools are published in the Wesite-www.slmedc.lk.
The Sri Lanka Medical Council considers five criteria to recognize medical schools and their courses. They are; entry requirements, duration of the course, the curriculum, staff and facilities in the school and teaching hospitals, and the location of the school. There are over 230 medical schools in 44 countries listed in the directory published by the Sri Lanka Medical Council, under the Medical Ordinance. Most of these schools are in India, Russia, and UK.The WHO Department of Human Resources for Health (HRH) publish on-line World directory of medical schools, formerly available via WHO’s website. This Directory is being uploaded and will be a web-based database with comprehensive information on health training institutions worldwide, including schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, midwifery, public health, pharmacy and rehabilitation.
