Minimum Entry Requirements

You must have at least one of the qualifications below:

Sri Lanka Examinations: 2 GCE A Levels (Grades A-C) PLUS 3 GCE O Levels (Grades C and D including Maths & English)

UK Examinations: 2 GCE A Levels (Grades A-E) PLUS 3 GCSE O Levels (Grades A-C in five subjects including Maths & English).

Mature Student Entry Route (MSER)

Normally you need to be 21 or over and to take papers MMA and MFA – the equivalent of papers F2, Management Accounting and F3, Financial Accounting – within two years, before further progression on the ACCA exams is allowed.

Certified Accounting Technician

(CAT) qualification

Alternatively, if you have no formal academic qualifications you can sit the CAT qualification first and then transfer to the Skills module of the ACCA qualification and claim exemption from the first three papers of the Knowledge module.

AAT Sri Lanka

The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka is a Professional Accountancy body, established in 1987 and is the only Professional Institute which conducts Accountancy Examinations at Technician Level in Sri Lanka. AATSL is an Associate Member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA).

Registration with AATSL

Students with six passes at the G.C.E (O/L) Examination are eligible to register with AATSL. AATSL examinations are most suited for students with G.C.E (O/L) and (A/L) – any subject stream qualifications. Those who are awaiting (A/L) results also can enroll for the courses to make use their precious time. In addition to this, any one who is having five years experience as an Accounts Clerk/Audit Clerk/Bookkeepers/Accounts Trainee in a recognized establishment, or any other equivalent or higher educational qualifications can register as a student.

Examinations of AATSL

AAT Examinations are held at three levels namely; Foundation, Intermediate and Final, in all the three media Sinhala, English and Tamil, twice a year in June and December. The duration of each level is six months; thus three levels can be completed within 1½ years by G.C.E (A/L) and (O/L) students, and in 1 year by G.C.E (A/L) Commerce stream students. AAT Examinations are held in Colombo, Kandy, Matara, Jaffna, Batticaloa,
Kurunegala, Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Badulla and Rathnapura. This facilitates the students to sit for the examinations at the closest Examination centres to their home towns.

Preparing for AATSL Examination

AATSL conducts classes in Colombo in Sinhala and English media to coach students for the AATSL examinations. AATSL also has several Registered Private Education Centres – (PECs), where classes are conducted to coach students for the AATSL examinations, both in Colombo and in different towns throughout the island. AATSL has more than 50 Registered Private Education Centres island-wide for the benefits of students and the public to get information such as student registration, examinations, training and also employment opportunities.

AATSL Examinations are a fast track to become a Chartered Accountant or Chartered Management Accountant, or to obtain a University Degree in Management, Administration, Commerce, Law or Computer or to gain admission to Foreign Universities or get immediate employment.

Course Details:

Certificate in Business Accounting
CIMA no longer recognises O/L or A/L as minimum entry requirements. The minimum entry requirement now is the Certificate in Business Accounting. On successful completion of the Certificate in Business Accounting students will be eligible to continue on the CIMA professional qualification. No qualification is required to register for the Certificate in Business Accounting but a candidate must be at least 16 years of age.
CIMA Professional Qualification
The syllabus is comprised of three elements:
Managerial Level (6 subjects)
Strategic Level (3 subjects)
TOPCIMA (Test of Professional Competing in Management Accounting

All exams are three hours long and have a pass mark of 50%. Once qualified, CIMA members can take advantage of a number of other programmes including a fast track MBA with Deakin University, Australia.

The standard entry requirement for the CIMA Professional Qualification is the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting as mentioned above. Other degrees and qualifications may exempt students from specific papers. Asian Aviation Centre (Pvt) Limited (AAC) was registered as a private limited liability company in 1985 and its main business was operating a flying training school. In 1990, it commenced a course of studies to train students to sit for the examination conducted by the Director General of Civil Aviation Sri Lanka for the issue of licences in aircraft maintenance without type rating (LWTR).

Due to the increased demand for higher studies, AAC considered the possibility of offering undergraduate courses in Aeronautical Engineering and embarked on a course development program to offer two other courses, a HND and a BSc, through an affiliation to Kingston University of UK, from 1997. A BEng (Hons) Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, BSc Degree in Computing, a Foundation Degree in Aircraft Engineering were subsequently added to the portfolio.

In 1998, AAC signed an agreement with the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology of the Government of South Australia, under which, from 1999, AAC offers the Certificate (Level 4) in Aviation Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical: Maintenance) course of Regency Institute of TAFE South Australia, in Sri Lanka.

In 2005, AAC entered into an agreement with Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE (KBIT) in Melbourne, the only organization
which possess CASA CAR3O approval for Aircraft Maintenance Training, to deliver the Certificate (Level IV) in Aviation Engineering; Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical: Maintenance) course at AAC. This new agreement with KBIT provides the students with an option to transfer to Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Aerospace) program of KBIT.

What started as an organization to train Pilots and a few technicians in aircraft maintenance has now grown to be an establishment which offers undergraduate courses in several disciplines. The Asian Aviation Centre is committed to ensure the continuing growth of its training arms, as a fully fledged teaching establishment dedicated to aviation related training in Sri Lanka.

The Colombo International Nautical & Engineering College (CINEC Maritime Campus) was established in 1990 to cater to the growing global demand for competent Navigation and Marine Engineer officers in the region. Folk Art Centre - Battaramulla

This institute is under the ministry of Rural Industry. The institute provide accommodation facilities for those who need.

Courses include; Mask industry, Laksha (painting with lacquers on coconut shells and wood for handicraft items), Gem Cutting, Producing Ceramic items, Producing Leather products, Producing coir products, Producing weaving and embroidery products. Duration : 6 months.

One year full time courses: Wood carving, Dancing (Up-country, Low-country, and Sabaragamu), Art and murals, and Music courses.
